Eva Has a New Baby Brother!

Baby Dash is here!  It has already been over a month.  It is hard to type with a child in each arm!

Eva’s Love Affair With a Burrito

When Eva really enjoys what she’s eating, she tends to hug it so no one else can get at it.  A few weeks ago, we went to Mission Dolores Park to see the SF Symphony.  We bought some burritos on the way.  Eva was supposed to be sharing this one with her Dad, but she wouldn’t give it up.

Eva actually chose that hat herself when we went to the store.

Hot Sunday

We were originally going to go to a toddler play today, but it was too hot to leave the house.  So Eva and I painted a side of her cardboard house, and Dad started making an easel.  It got messy.

It had to Happen

Eva received her first haircut!  At first I thought I would get her a bob, but I really like putting her hair in ponytails.  Plus her hair is so curly on the ends.  So we just got a trim.  Her hair looks great and is so much easier to brush.

The actual appointment was very traumatic.  So traumatic that I left my camera at the hair salon and was unable to take cute pictures afterward.  Eva was in tears the moment she realized what was going on (about 2 seconds after we got to the salon).  But the hairdresser, who came highly recommended, was wonderful.  She was patient and used all her tricks to get Eva to stop crying.  Eva eventually  stopped crying, but was not happy, as you can see below.

I often have trouble choosing the best photo for  a post, but I really had  trouble this time.  They are all so cute and also capture her resigned despair so well.  I actually cut quite a few.

Eva passed the time eating goldfish and watching Elmo.  And I learned what my daughter should look like in a perfect Stepford world (gel, freshly cut ribbon).  If only we had the time and Eva had the patience.  She does look adorable.

Rainy Day

Here are some videos of Eva stomping around in a giant puddle.

Eva at 17 months

I know it’s been a long time since I’ve posted about my daughter.  Life is busy busy busy.  At this point Eva is clearly in toddler land.  She is walking fantastically, her fine motor skills are excellent, and her words are superb.  She has so many words I can’t even count them!  She adds words constantly.  For instance today she learned the word peacock.  She also says the full word “water,” not wawa.  Her speech can be hard to understand and sometimes she’ll tell me whole paragraphs about what, I don’t know.  She follows directions too.  She doles out hugs and kisses, and even blows kisses.  One thing I must note is that Eva’s most favorite person in the entire world is her father.  He is pretty great, but sometimes it’s hard not being the one she runs to when she’s hurt.

We finally, 2 months late, made it to Eva’s 15 month appointment.  She is really healthy and I have absolutely no developmental concerns, so there wasn’t much to talk about.  But her growth numbers are wild!  She’s 21.5 pounds, in the 25th percentile, she’s 31 inches, in the 50th percentile, and has an 18.5 inch head circumference putting her in the 75th percentile!  That brain is growing!

Eva still only has four teeth!

Housekeeping in the Buff

Eva likes to help me sweep the floor, so I bought her a broom in her size so she will stop stealing mine, and learn to enjoy housekeeping.  Because it is fun.  And I should know.  I do it all the time.  In the photo below, you will notice that she has started taking off her diaper whenever she feels like it.

Unbelievable!

Last night Eva slept for the longest straight period of her entire life.  She slept for NINE HOURS.  It has been a particularly rough sleeping week and when I awoke to her screaming, I was surprised by how clearheaded I felt.  Then I looked at the time.  I am so proud!

I thought she had made some great developmental sleeping stride, but this morning Eva’s Dad found some sharp edges in the bottom of her mouth.  Her first tooth has broken through!

Eva Steps!

Eva keeps growing by leaps and bounds every day. She takes small steps when you hold onto her arms, and she can stand on her own for short periods of time. I need to watch Eva all the time because her favorite thing in the world to do is to pull up. On everything.

Eva’s Dad and I are convinced she has said her first words. We both have heard her say ball. Eva’s Dad has heard her say water.

On The Move!

Life in our house has officially changed. Eva is crawling. It is so fun to watch her improve her crawling skills every day! First it was a few steps, then it was a few more steps with much coaxing. Now she is exploring. She is checking out everything. She is not very fast yet, but I know that is soon to come. She is also pulling up a lot more now. And on everything. She even takes a few wobbily steps (while holding onto hands of course). I love this new development!
