Eva makes the cutest noises and expressions. She coos and screams and babbles and smiles and looks perplexed. One of her most notable and adorable expressions happens when she scrunches up her nose and sniffs. She does this when she is happy, and when I ask her to (seriously). When she first started doing it, we were convinced she had something up her nose. We even used the syringe bulb.
She also sharply inhales air when she is having a good time. It sounds like she is desperately gasping for air. When she first started making these sounds, I went to the doctor, convinced she had asthma or some horrible allergy. I have subsequently learned that lots of babies make this sound, but I am the only Mom I know who went to the doctor when it happened. I think my own mom personality is coming out, and it looks like I am neurotic.
Eva has discovered her hands! She really loves to stare at them and move them around. They fascinate her. Even if they are covered with mittens or shirt sleeves, she will still find them. Actually she’s been doing this for a while. I’ve been trying to get this photo for weeks! Every time I tried to get a photo, she would catch me. She still loves her mom more than her hands.
Eva loves to look at herself. Sometimes if she is crying we’ll put her in front of a mirror and she’ll laugh at herself. Eva’s Dad read somewhere that babies don’t recognize themselves until they are 1 year old. That is so bizarre because she smiles a lot when looking at herself, but not so much at other babies.
She also loves to look at mom.
Update: I added these two videos. They are essentially the same, but I couldn’t choose between the two of them so here are both.
Eva has discovered… her tongue. I’ve heard of babies finding their feet and their hands, but I have never heard of babies discovering their tongues. She touches it, grabs it with her hands and pulls on it. It is adorable. Another thing she has become fond of is gurgling breast milk. After eating, she loves to lay back and make cooing sounds while gurgling. I can’t figure out if she likes the feeling or the sound. She is so talented.
